Datta Mandir (Chaul)

The Datta Mandir at Chaul is a much-loved hill shrine reached by a forest climb of around 700 stairs, about 18 km from Alibaug on the Alibaug-Revdanda road. Dedicated to Lord Dattatreya, the temple sits amid thick woodland that keeps the ascent cool and green, and the effort of the climb gives way to a deep, meditative calm at the top. The premises hold several revered landmarks, including the Swami Samartha Muth, the Sadhana Kutir, the Hare Ram Baba Dhuni Mandir and the Audumbar Muth, so the visit is as much a spiritual retreat as a temple stop. The surrounding forest and the historic town of Chaul, once a thriving port, add layers of nature and heritage to the experience.
