Goa Fort, locally Gova Fort, is another of the coastal defences clustered around Harnai, completing the ring of forts that made this port one of the most heavily guarded points on the Konkan coast. Modest in scale and quietly ruined, it nonetheless adds depth to the Harnai story, showing how the Marathas layered sea and land fortifications to control the harbour and the trade that flowed through it. For travellers piecing together the area's military heritage, Goa Fort is a natural extension of a visit to Kanakdurg, Fattehgad and the island Suvarnadurg. The setting is rugged and atmospheric, with sea views and the constant sound of the surf, and because few tourists seek it out, you often have the ruins to yourself. Expect no facilities, signage or tickets, just old stone and open coast.
